DT Serum, Primary Testing In Progress

Layla looked at Lex, confused. "Uh," she hesitated before asking. "Why do you say that?"

Lex glanced at her then turned away.  "Never mind.  Just thinking out loud."

Layla nodded. She understood. It sounded like a touchy subject, and she shouldn't have pried. She had a few site and ugly spots of her own.

Geena cleared her throat as she stepped into Gaster's office.  "Doctor?"

Gaster looked up. He was taking a break from looking through the files to instead trying to make a beta cure for Lex. "Yes, Geena?" He asked as he carefully added a couple of drops to his mixture.

"Lex is awake.  Have you been in to see him yet?" Geena asked softly.

Gaster shook his head. "Not yet. I wanted to make some sort of progress first."

It was about this time that Ashton returned, quietly slipping in and sitting next to Lex. He was already tense again.

"You should go talk to him," she urged.  "Father first, scientist second."

Gaster realized his error and nodded. he took the beaker off of the bunsen burner and let it cool before h took his lab coat off. Gaster headed towards Lex's room, knocking on the doorframe lightly.

Geena smiled and shook her head as she watched him go.  

"What's out there?" Lex was asking Ashton, his voice still soft and hoarse, but still better than before.

"Trees." Ashton replied. "It was raining too, when I came back." He looked at the door when Gaster knocked. "Can the Doc come in?" He asked Lex.

"Yeah, sure," Lex agreed.  "It was raining?"

"Yeah. Luckily I got inside before it really started to pour." Ashton said. Gaster walked in and gave Lex a warm smile in greeting.

Lex turned to eye Gaster.  "Hey.  What's up?"

"Just checking in." Gaster assured Lex. "How are you feeling?"

"Sore, throbbing head, so like normal except I can breathe," Lex answered.

"The being able to breathe is an improvement." Gaster said positively. "Do you mind if I look over the incision site? If I get a grasp at how well it's healing, I may be able to set up a definitive date you can recover at home."

"Yeah, sure," Lex agreed, wilting just a touch.

Gaster frowned a little. "Lex?" He asked. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing, nothing at all," Lex muttered.  "What do you need me to do?"

"Lex..." Gaster said seriously. "I cannot help you if you do not tell me what's wrong in the first place."

"I'm fine," Lex snapped irritably.  "You were checking the incision, remember?"

Gaster frowned and adjusted his glasses. He checked the incision and left without another word.

Ashton sighed a little.

Lex glared at Ashton.  "What?"

Ashton furrowed his brow. "What do you mean, 'what?' He asked you what was wrong and you nearly bit his head off, like you sound like you're about to do me."
